A place for inexpensive date ideas :)

Monthly Archives: January 2012

We took the time to write down the things we wanted and things we felt were needs in our future home. We went to model homes to get ideas for interiors and floor plans and we drove past other homes to get ideas on exteriors. It helped us decide what we want and don’t want in our future home. Even building a home became an idea. We got excited for possibilities for the future. This definitely qualifies as a datingwithcoinage date because it is an inexpensive date and it is fun to see home designs!

Remember the good ole days? Saturday morning cartoons? That was the theme for this date. We dressed in our pj’s, enjoyed a variety of breakfast cereals and lemon pound cake while settling in and watching the good ole cartoons like Looney Tunes, Ducktales, Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers, and the Batman animated series. Life doesn’t get much better! Here is the recipe for lemon pound cake (yumm!):

Pound Cake
2 squares butter or margarine 2 cups sugar
3 eggs 3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder ½ teaspoon salt
1 can evaporated milk 2 ½ teaspoons almond or lemon
flavoring
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat eggs in one at a time and mix well. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Add alternately with evaporated milk. Stir in flavoring. Beat until well mixed and light. Pour into greased and lightly floured bundt cake pan, 10-inch tube pan, or 2-3 bread pans. Bake in 350 degree oven for 50 to 60 minutes or until cake tests done. Allow to stand 10 minutes after taken from oven, then turn out of pan. Serve with fresh fruit, strawberries, bananas, etc. and whipped sweetened cream or sprinkle lightly with powdered sugar and serve plain.

Fun with Letters

The alphabet was our inspiration for this date. This is an easy, fun way to have a blast on a themed date. This is how you use the alphabet :):

A-Adoration (I told Heather how I feel about her 🙂 )

B-Baby/Bun Basket n Bakery (We were with our baby for part of the date and we went to the Bun Basket n Bakery for goodies 🙂 )

C-Car Wash (We has good intentions to do this, but it was a little snowy at first and then time ran out at the end so we decided to postpone this one)

D-Dinner Together (We had pizza for dinner)

E-Excited (Get excited to have fun on the date!)

F-Fun

G-Going

H-Home (At the beginning and end of the date, we played road car games: the alphabet car game – finding letters in signs and things; and the alphabet country game – where you name a country and the next person names a country starting with the letter that the last country ended with. We also played a game where you say you are going on a trip and taking something that starts with an A, then a B, etc.)

I-Ingredients (This was in conjunction with the bakery – we could choose an item for each other from the bakery)

J-Jump (We actually didn’t do this one because Tyler forgot, but it was to jump from the car to the door of the house 🙂 )

K-Kissing J (No explanation needed)

L-Letters in the library (We wrote letters to each other in the library to open at a later date)

M-Music (We listened to music in the car)

N-Nose Sketch (We sketched each other’s noses in the library)

O-Open (Tyler opened Heather’s car door all night)

P-Pictures (We took pictures of our date)

Q-Question (Ask each other a question about anything that we had to answer)

R-Russian (One phrase of the letter had to be written in Russian, then it was changed to Latin, but then to Italian because the library didn’t have any Latin dictionaries)

S-Sugar (As in we ate some 🙂 )

T-Time together (The point of the date 🙂 )

U-Undulation (We sang together to the music we listened to)

V-Volume (Heather got to set the volume of the music in the car to whatever she wanted on the way home)

W-Whispering Sweet Sentiments (We each whispered something sweet to each other)

X-XYZ, PDQ! (Although there was no real need for this, it was fun to say anyway 🙂 )

Y-You & Me (Just Heather and Tyler 🙂 )

Z-Zebra Facts (We each found a book about zebras in the library and shared some interesting Zebra facts with each other)

This is how we used the alphabet on our date. Feel free to use what we did or use your imagination to come up with your own fun ideas!
