This post is actually for two different dates. The first date Tyler called a “Heather’s favorites date.” We started off the date with him giving me a massage. It was much needed after all the work we’ve been doing in our yard. To finish the night ate popcorn and watched a chick flick. I was having a hard time coming up with a good date idea last week so I stole Ty’s idea and we had a “Ty’s favorites date.” We played a video game of Ty’s choice, because it is not very often that I consent to play video games with Ty. In fact Tyler asked me the next day if I wanted to play a video game and I told him I was at my limit for the month. We made Ty’s favorite caramel popcorn that we’ve posted in a previous post. Finally we watched a movie of his choice. Totally simple dates, but we love to just spend time together it doesn’t really matter what we do 🙂
Last Friday we made oreo brownies. They were easy to make and delicious. You can find the recipe here http://picky-palate.com/2011/07/05/gooey-cookies-and-cream-double-chocolate-cake-bars/ While we snacked on our treats we wrote down some stories about Tyler’s dad. Ned, Tyler’s dad, was a great story teller and always had a us laughing with the stories he would tell. It was good for us to reminisce about the great times that we’ve had with Tyler’s dad. We love Ned!!
This week it was Tyler’s turn for a date. During the day I called Tyler at work. He picked up on the fact that I was not having the greatest day ever. Ty is such a sweetie and brought me flowers. After putting our little girl to bed we started our date that he termed a “pamper Heather date.” It was just what I needed. We started our date by slow dancing and reminiscing. After that we watched one of my all time favorite movies, Pride and Prejudice. Tyler had never seen it and told me that he had never had a desire to see it (what a good guy). During the movie Tyler gave me a massage and we snacked on some of my favorite Easter candy that Tyler picked up on the way home. I know this date may not seem creative or new, but it was exactly what I needed after a rough day!
Love of course! At least that’s what comes to mind first during this time of year. We did an L themed date this last weekend. Parts of our date were romantic I supposed but this date was mostly fun!! We started the evening by doing something we LOVE, cooking. We made yummy popcorn to snack on through out the night. You can find the recipe here: http://www.prettyprovidence.com/2012/03/aunt-vals-caramel.html While we snacked on our popcorn we read LETTERS that we had written to each other last year. To end the evening off we did the first two challenges from a LEGO quest. You can find the lego quest here: http://legoquestkids.blogspot.com/ The first challenge was to make a car. These are our cars. The purple one is a minivan and the orange one is a monster truck. The second challenge was to build something with monochromatic bricks. We each chose the color the other person was to build with. It was a lovely date 🙂
We don’t know about you, but after the holidays we had a lot of candy left over. This date was intended to get rid of some of that candy. Tyler made a memory game with different pictures of candy. If you got a match you got to eat the candy in the picture. We also played a bingo type game with dice and M&Ms. It was fun to play games and eat candy.
We started off our evening by making some good old homemade caramels. We found the recipe here http://www.midwestliving.com/recipe/candy/caramels They were a lot easier to make then I thought they would be. We then played a guess the Christmas carol game that we found here http://www.flickr.com/photos/orangerful/4177287103/ We ended the evening by playing pictionary/charades. Here was the list of words that we came up with: Santa, Mrs. Claus, Nativity, Reindeer, The Grinch, Up on the House Top, 12 Days of Christmas, 9 Ladies Dancing, Ornament, Santa’s Sleigh, Sugar Plums, Nutcracker, 3 French Hens, Lights, Caroling, Stocking, and Christmas Tree. Some words were definitely more difficult than others. There is nothing like a game of charades or pictionary to get you laughing.
We love cooking together! This date was simple but fun. We made a yummy treat, German Chocolate Cake Bars, and played games while they were cooking. The link for the treats is here http://kim-thislittlelifeofmine.blogspot.com/2012/06/german-chocolate-cake-bars.html It was nice to have a quiet evening at home 🙂
