A place for inexpensive date ideas :)

Monthly Archives: April 2012

We started the evening off with a scavenger hunt through our house. Tyler had to figure out very witty clues to figure out where we were going. The scavenger hunt ended in the car where there was a note that said “Although we’ve had fun we’re not done! Now it’s off to find a treat that can’t be beat.” We then went in search of the best chocolate chip cookie. We both decided that Kneaders had the best chocolate chip cookie. It was moist and had big chunks of chocolate. MMMMM…delicious!!

We made yummy sweet rolls and talked about all kinds of bread! We asked each other a number of questions that centered around bread. Here are some of the questions we talked about: What are your three favorite dessert breads? What are your three favorite dinner breads? What is your favorite way to eat bread? What is your favorite bread memory? What are your three favorite bought breads? What are your three favorite homemade breads?
Below is the recipe for the sweet rolls we made and a picture 🙂

Sweet Rolls
Dough:
7 cups flour 1 package yeast
½ cup shortening 2 teaspoons salt
Âľ cup powdered milk 2 tablespoons honey
Filling:
Carmel Sauce Coconut
Pecans
Frosting:
4 Tbsp melted butter 2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla 3-6 Tbsp hot water
Put flour in a large mixing bowl. Make a well in the center of the flour. Pour yeast packet in well and cover with lukewarm water so that the yeast will start dissolving. Don’t let the yeast run out of the well. Add to the bowl all the other dough ingredients. Mix thoroughly. (I use my hands to mix) Add water until the dough becomes sticky (dough must be sticky for the ingredients to mix). Knead well (this is crucial). Add flour as kneading until the mixture becomes dough-like. It should no longer stick to you hands and feel “elastic”. Let rise. Roll out dough. Spread caramel sauce over dough, sprinkle with coconut and nuts. Roll, slice, and put on cookie sheet. Bake 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Mix the ingredients for the frosting. Spread over the rolls. Enjoy!!
